Hello everyone. I am new to the School (and astrology) so hopefully this question is not too disinteresting.
I am trying to understand what placements to use when identifying the annual themes (fundamental issues and experiences initiated) on the solar return and I am a little confused. At the risk of sounding daft, are we using the natal houses through which Pluto and the Nodes are transiting or are we using the solar return transit houses?
To illustrate my confusion, I'll be using Bon Jovi's birth chart (below) - today being his birthday (Born, March 2nd 1962, 20:45, Rahway, New Jersey, US). Bon Jovi's Solar Return (SR) Pluto is transiting his 4th house Capricorn, however the current house position of Pluto is the 11th house Capricorn. Same question for the lunar nodes. Also, when we are looking at the planetary rulers of the Nodes, are we using their current/solar return placement or are we using the natal placement?
E.g. if using natal placements for Bon Jovi's chart, SR Pluto: 4th house Capricorn, SN: 1st house Scorpio, Planetary Ruler: Natal Pluto in 11th house Virgo. SR Pluto polarity point: 10th house Cancer, NN: 7th house Taurus, Planetary Ruler: Natal Venus 5th house Pisces.
If however, we use today's placements, SR Pluto is in 11th house Capricorn, SN in 8th house Scorpio, Planetary Ruler Pluto in the 11th house Capricorn. Pluto Polarity 5th house Cancer, NN 2nd house Taurus, Planetary Ruler: Venus in 1st house Aries.
Or do I have it completely wrong either way?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Hi,
At the risk of sounding daft, are we using the natal houses through which Pluto and the Nodes are transiting or are we using the solar return transit houses?
******
All transits, including Pluto and the Lunar Nodes, are applied to the natal chart. Solar Returns are stand alone charts that are correctly interpreted by understanding the natal chart first, the transits to them at any point in time, and then return charts that are correctly interpreted relative to the context of the natal chart, and the transits to it.

Thank you! Helpful imagery too.
