Hi Rad et al,
I wanted to get a thread started for those that are interested in Medical Astrology and Herbalism from the EA perspective.
I have a few questions that come to mind as I begin to explore the topic further:
I am in love with JWG's Medical Astrology book and wondered if there were other texts/resources that he recommended on the subject or used as references or to influence his understandings on the subjects covered in the book.
I am trying to be integral about how I think about herbs and their pairing with planets or how we can work with planetary energies using herbs and am wondering what the best way to go about that is?
For example, given that many of the planetary rulerships were given in ancient times before the discovery of Pluto, Neptune, Uranus etc., do we then look to the Chakras i.e. the herbs that yogic texts associate with each chakra and/or the herbs that correlate with the anatomical/physiological correlations associated with the chakras.
As a very basic example, in thinking about the upcoming New Moon in Pisces and wanting to work in a ritualized way with the herbs associated with Neptune, could I think of Valerian as a Neptunian herb, instead of the traditionally viewed rulership of Mercury, because of it's ability to improve sleep and matching in color associated with the Crown Chakra?
If that is an acceptable way to think about it:
1. Are there specific classes of herbs we can or should associate with the outer planets or even certain asteroids?
2. Is there a reputable text recommended for referencing chakras and their plant correlations.
3. Would scents factor into the picture in some way?
Whatever the case, I would very much like to hear your thoughts on how to best approach the subject.
I so appreciate your time and consideration.
Blessings, Bess
If I'm correct, Cameron Allen is EA trained and an herbalist. He's quite talented and insightful and surely has much to contribute regarding the areas of interest you asked about. He's on twitter (@CAdreaM7) and can be found at https://www.cadreamplanet.com

The most important thing of all is of course to have a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology of the human body. This then allows for an understanding of what herbs to use in terms of working with the body as long as there is a correct knowledge of what a given herb does when ingested into the body: the physiological and anatomical responses that they generate.
In terms of working with planetary energies this is a matter of knowing the total archetypes of any given planet and the bio- magnetic, physiological triggers, that are caused within the human brain that each planet generates. For example, Mars correlates with adrenaline. So a stressful Mars transit in a chart can trigger excessive level of adrenaline. Knowing this a good way to balance that is then ingesting panothetic acid which will dissolve that excessive amount of that adrenaline which then allows the body, and the emotions within it, to calm down.

I really don't know about that.

Yes, this is aroma therapy of course but, of itself, it will not heal anything. Used in conjunction with relevant herbs, homeopathy, and cell salts it can add to what is trying to be accomplished.
God Bless, Rad
